What is The Constitution Club of India

The Constitution Club of India was established by members of the Indian Constituent Assembly. Currently, the Constitution Club acts as a venue for discussion between former and current members of parliament. The Societies Registration Act of 1860 governs the club.

The RTI applicant enquired about the Club’s ownership of property, assets, lands, buildings, and other goods, among other things, in addition to information on the Club’s founding, purposes, and management. Further, the petitioner questioned whether Lok Sabha served as the official President of the Constitution Club.

After reviewing the evidence and hearing the parties, the CIC determined that the Lok Sabha Speaker is the club’s ex officio president, the Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker is its ex officio general secretary and the Union Minister for Urban Development is its ex officio vice-president, and the Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson is its ex officio vice-president. Though the roles are purported to be honorary and ceremonial, the transactions and transfers show that they are in
